Art Forest School: Sensory Sand Gardens

  • Good Shepherd Studios 15a Davies Lane London, England, E11 3DR United Kingdom (map)

From Pippa and Lucy (Flying Sycamores)":

Participants will be invited to make 'Sensory Sand Gardens', taking inspiration from Japanese Zen gardens and the 'Shadow Boxes' of the 20th Century American artist Joseph Cornell.

The workshop willgive participants an opportunity to make art in a way that appeals to their inbuilt inquisitiveness and creativity, and aims to have a calming effect by using natural sensory materials.

We design workshops so that children and young people with disabilities are given the opportunity to engage creatively with materials and process, and have their output given the same weight and attention as any other artwork.

They have ranged from giant weaving to cave painting, from sand gardens to polaroid photography - all with the intention to be not only as accessible as possible, but as compelling and - crucially - as valued.
