Beneath Our Footsteps: The Philley Brook
Thursday 6th - Sunday 9th February 2025 (exact opening dates TBC)
Digital arts collective Compiler have been working with local residents to creatively rediscover the lost Philley Brook river, which runs beneath the streets of Upper Walthamstow, Leytonstone, and Leyton.
With sound artist Brigitte Hart, psychogeographer John Rogers and equalities designer Natasha Trotman, amongst other local artists, they have delivered a series of workshops and guided walks.
The outcome of the project is a collaborative artwork presented at No 1 Church Lane and online.

Overlap

"Overlap" explores the dynamic interplay between connection and fragmentation in art. The exhibition examines how the edges of painting and sculpture blur boundaries, shaping our perception of form and space. It highlights how these edges influence the viewer's understanding of movement, transition, and the fluidity between mediums.

Lily @lilydeason who makes very colourful homeware ceramics, there’s a great selection of mugs to choose from.
And also on Thursday evening from 6pm to 8pm, we will have a workshop runned by Mika, teaching you the Japenese technique of Sashiko embroidery, that you can be used for invisible mending!

Ceramics Open Studios

Leytonstone-based ceramic artists Kasia Howlett and Melina Padrón invite you to an intimate showcase of their most recent work, which will be available for purchase.
During the Opening Studios, visitors are invited to collaborate on the making of a stoneware vase celebrating our local community. The collaborative art work will be sold, with the proceeds of the sale donated to the organisation Medical Aid for Palestinians

Natural Colour: Textile Art Exhibition and Family Workshops

We welcome Kirstie Macqueen back, this time with:
An art textile exhibition of natural dyeing, ecoprinting and stitching; and
Family-friendly workshops for the Easter holidays where children and their carers will make marks with natural dyes, inks and watercolour paint and learn to fold a simple book.
“My work grows from my play using plants and other items found in the natural environment. I am particularly interested in exploring how cloth and paper can hold memories of places and times spent there.”

Local Screen Printing and Signwriting studio Manson’s Press will be offering for sale a selection of handmade screen prints and gold gilded signs.
Over the course of a weekend they will be creating a gilded sign onsite, allowing people to drop by and see the process involved in creating gold leaf gilded signage suitable for traditional house names and numbers as well as customised gifts and commissions.

Yoga and printed textile design experts Jessica and Tamasyn Gambell met at Good Shepherd Studios. Their mutual admiration made a collaboration inevitable.
The result? A selection of hand-printed upcycled props include eye pillows, bags (ripped jeans donations welcome!), bolsters and meditation cushions.
